This site presents the work of the spiritual philosopher and artist, William Arkle. The central theme is the nature of the possible relationship between humans and God, and in particular the most mature form of relationship, that of friendship, and you will find it here in a large selection of paintings, poetry, prose and music. Although it has a profound simplicity, this understanding is not always easy, and it requires a response from the very deepest and most sensitive part of our nature. Please feel free to find your way around the site as you please, but a useful introduction is to follow the links which take you through the original sequence of the book 'The Great Gift', which was intended to be a helpful 'way in'. This includes some fifty paintings with explanations, and a selection of poetry and essays. Bill's later work emphasises particularly the quality of a deeply responsive kind of play, and without some grounding in what one might call the 'core concepts', or a prior recognition of the real nature of our relationship with God, and our purpose here, it can be misunderstood as being overly light-hearted. It is very light-hearted, but it is also grounded in an absolute integrity of being, and a very direct perception of the finest and most subtle qualities of God.
